Indian Confederation of Medical Laboratory Science (ICMLS) is a national professional body dedicated to advancing, safeguarding, and empowering the Medical Laboratory Science profession in India. Representing laboratory professionals from diverse sectors—including clinical laboratories, medical colleges, diagnostic centres, research institutions, public health systems, and industry—ICMLS works to ensure that the profession receives its due recognition as an essential pillar of healthcare.

ICMLS advocates for statutory regulation, professional autonomy, quality standards, workforce development, and uniform education in alignment with global best practices. Through scientific initiatives, leadership development, CPD programs, policy advocacy, and national collaborations, the Confederation is committed to strengthening competencies, promoting ethical practice, and supporting innovation in diagnostics and laboratory medicine.

With a vision to build a globally competent, regulated, and patient-centric laboratory workforce, ICMLS remains steadfast in its mission to enhance diagnostic excellence and contribute to India’s healthcare advancement.

The ICMLS was established in year 2016 as a national registered body for MLS Associations, Academic bodies, industry partners and individuals members. Further, for the smooth functioning of the organization, the ICMLS got registered in 2022 at New Delhi as a national Confederation of Medical Laboratory Science.

Presently it is a unifying voice of thousands of Indian medical laboratory professionals and also a representative voice of more than 25 MLS Associations from various central & states, departments/ Institutions’ under Central Government, State Governments, Autonomous and private health care establishments across the country. ICMLS is presently representing medical laboratory professionals from all major departments like Indian Railway, ESIC, CGHS, OFB, Central Hospitals like Dr RMLH, VMMC & SJH, LHMC & SSKH, KSCH and INIs like AIIMS, New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS, NTI Bengaluru, NTIRD, Delhi. It is also representing the associations of private medical laboratory professionals.

Since its inception, the ICMLS has been striving hard for the standardization, promotion, overall development and delivery of excellence in medical lab education & services. The expert members from the ICMLS have been instrumental in various professional developments initiatives undertaken by the Central Government like setting uniformity and revision of designation, pay scales, entry level qualification/ Recruitment rules by undertaking cadre review of Central Government medical laboratory staff, curriculum development, defining job roles, career pathway for medical laboratory professionals. The ICMLS has also been part of various official consultation related to implementation NCAHP Act-2021 and CEA Act-2010.
