Indian Confederation of Medical Laboratory Science (ICMLS) is a national registered organization of Indian medical laboratory professionals from Central Government, State Governments, Autonomous and Private healthcare establishments all over India.

As Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) is a multidisciplinary profession having various specialties and sub specialties like Medical Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Histopathology, Hematology, Blood banking/Transfusion Science, Molecular Biology, Total Quality Management/Laboratory Management etc. and there is a huge workforce of medical laboratory professionals, engaged in clinical laboratory practices, teaching/ trainings of UG/PG in medical & Allied Health Sciences and clinical research activities in health care system. Further, more than 50 State level, Department level and institute level MLS Association presently exist at different level all over India. To unite these all MLS associations and professionals under an umbrella organization was a big challenge yet very necessary step for the overall augmentation of medical lab profession; hence the Indian Confederation of medical laboratory Science (ICMLS) was established in year 2016 as a national registered body for MLS Associations, Academic bodies, industry partners and individuals members. Further, for the smooth functioning of the organization, the ICMLS got registered in 2022 as a national confederation of medical laboratory science at New Delhi under Indian Trust Act-1882

Presently it is a unifying voice of more than fifty thousand Indian medical laboratory professionals and a representative voice of more than 25 MLS Associations from various central & states, departments/Institutions’ under Central Government, State Governments, Autonomous and private health care establishments across the country. ICMLS is presently representing medical laboratory professionals from all major departments like Indian Railway, ESIC, CGHS, OFB, Central Hospitals like Dr RMLH, VMMC & SJH, LHMC & SSKH, KSCH and INIs like AIIMS, New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS, NTI Bengaluru, NTIRD, Delhi. It is also representing the associations of private medical laboratory professionals.

The mission of ICMLS is to be a pioneer in advancement of the knowledge, study practices and research of the Medical Laboratory Science Profession and to make an aware and vibrant medical laboratory technology fraternity. Since its inception, the ICMLS has been striving hard for the standardization, promotion, overall development and delivery of excellence in medical lab education & services. The expert members from the ICMLS have been instrumental in various professional developments initiatives undertaken by the Central Government like setting uniformity and revision of designation, pay scales, entry level qualification/ Recruitment rules by undertaking cadre review of Central Government medical laboratory staff, curriculum development, defining job roles, career pathway for medical laboratory professionals. The ICMLS has also been part of various official consultation related to implementation NCAHP Act-2021 and CEA Act-2010.

ICMLS was the founder of National Medical Laboratory Professional Week (NMLPW) in India which has now been established as a national celebration for medical laboratory professionals all over India. ICMLS also holds its Scientific Conferences annually for the scientific developments of its members and also established an International Committee for Augmentation of Clinical Lab. Professional (InCoSalp)

ICMLS is a member of International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences (IFBLS). It is also affiliated with Asian Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (AAMLS) and is also a member of the Joint Forum of Medical Technologists of India (JFMTI).
